At Christian fellowships, I often hear people say how God delivered them instantly from substance abuse, and I would flippantly think, "O, shut up, or Get away from me, or I hate you!" because, for me, there were no quick results. I'm Jane Mor, and I have suffered from an addictive personality most of my adult life, but little by little Jesus set me free much in the way of Ex 23.29-30, “But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. Little by little, I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land” (NIV). Looking back on my dependencies: alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes were the main ones, I had a tendency of trying different things to break free only to be defeated until God helped me to realize that I was acting before asking what His way was in the situation as in Ps 86.11, “Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth: unite my heart to fear Your name” (NKJV). For different dependencies, God had a different plan for delivering me as you can read in the posts. For example, God’s plan for freeing me from cigarettes did not work when I later tried it on an opioid addiction; He had something else in mind for that. One of them may be God's plan for you, but whether serious addictions, habits, or other circumstances, let your first act be to ask, what is Your way in this situation, O LORD; I will walk in it: unite my heart to fear Your name; and then, listen for and observe what comes up within and without you.
